Funded projects

Fellowships for a research project in the thematic area of art, technology, and society

The “Medienkunstfellows” funding program—Fellowships for Art, Technology, and Society—aims to bring new ideas and approaches from other regions, countries, and continents to North Rhine-Westphalia, thereby forging new connections with international discourses and practices in media art and digital culture. The call for proposals, first published in January 2021, was specifically aimed at institutions and independent initiatives that engage artistically and culturally with technological change and its impact on society, and that draw upon the broad spectrum of media art and digital culture in their methodologies.

The program, which supports various artistic or academic research projects, facilitates an in-depth exploration of the effects of technological and media change on society. Institutions and independent initiatives may apply together with their fellow.

The submission deadline for projects for the year 2027 is September 15, 2026. The jury for the 2027 funding round has not yet been appointed and will be announced shortly.
